Mycological laboratory

FOCUS OF THE LABORATORY:

We focus on the diagnosis of diseases caused by fungal agents except of dermatophytes, which are processed by the mycological laboratory of the Clinic of Dermatology. The material is examined microscopically and cultured. When yeast or filamentous fungal are isolated, we identify them and determine the susceptibility to antifungal agents using the qualitative method (disk diffusion method), or quantitative method (E-test). The lab also monitors development of resistance to antifungal agents and is doing screening of haematological patients. We identify filamentous fungal of the environment.
